Featured Artists

We will regularly bring you a featured artist from our gallery.

Currently we are highlighting the work of Ann Kelly who got in touch with us soon after we moved to Hay. The jpegs she sent looked interesting so we asked her to come and see us. You never know when an artist or maker arrives with their work whether, in reality, it will be better or worse than the computer images. As soon as Ann had won the struggle with packing tape and plastic wrapping which tenaciously protected the  first painting, and it was revealed, it was clear – her work was actually much better in real life than the in the photos which had attracted our interest.

She paints in oils with a fascinating range of subjects, going from a coastal path to a night time city scene effortlessly. She masters colour and light with confident brush strokes, and if I had to choose one word for her work, it would be “Quality”. Having studied art as a student, she has painted nearly all her life, and exhibited widely. We are delighted to have her work here in Hay.
