Beautifully naturally patterned elm is contrasted with deep black in this handsome pot. 6 cm high with 10 cm square lid.

Kevin is based in Sussex and has been working with wood for more than 30 years. His first experience was with a small modest drill attachment lathe. Completely enthralled by the different shapes and configurations that could be achieved, he progressed from this lathe onto a larger and more professional machine. He served a successful five year apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery at The Brighton Technical College. After 16 years practical experience he progressed as a freelance draughtsman in architecturally designed joinery manufacture. He found this experience inspired a desire to design more creative forms.

Kevin now blends subtle forms and strong tones of colour to emphasis the variety of grain found in wood. Kevin has used exotic hardwoods but more frequently uses sycamore and ash. Each piece is finished by a process of a mixture of natural oils such as Danish oil and liquid paraffin over a period of three days, to compliment the subtle tones used.

Inspirations for Kevin have been Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures and the study of Oriental architecture. As Kevin expresses in his own words, “this I try to instil in my work by the movement of wood to form more flowing lines than seen in conventional turning”. He is also a member of the Worshipful Order of Woodturners.
