A lovely mottled purple, this anodised aluminium Chilli pendant is 3 cm long, on an 18 inch silver snake chain.
Yu Lan Su came to England in 1997 from Taiwan and has settled as a jeweller in Leigh on Sea. After being named “Best Contemporary Jeweller” in her home country of Taiwan she was voted “Best Emerging Designer in Platinum in the UK” in 2007, and was winner of “Best Design in Precious Metal” from the British Jewellers Association in 2011. Together with her jeweller husband Paul Burkmar she produces highly attractive and wearable silver and aluminium jewellery.
The aluminium is “anodised” (treated with an electric current) to break the surface, which allows paint or dyes to be stained onto the metal. Yu Lan paints or prints the metal and seals the colours by boiling in water. The jewellery is then hand cut from small sheets of patterned metal.
