Raku Oyster Catcher Sitting on a Rock, by Rob Whelpton
SKU RW 293
A delightful little sculptural piece by Rob, with an oyster catcher perched on the top of an oval ceramic form decorated with fish. 13.5 cm high by 8 cm at the base.
As a young man Rob worked in the National Museum Botswana, and then lived and worked in Denmark. Returning to England he trained in ceramics at Dartington Pottery in Devon, and set up his own workshop in south Wiltshire with his wife Vicky. Together they have been potting ever since. Rob concentrates on individual raku fired pieces. The work ranges from small amusing animals and bird caricatures, to stylish handbuilt lustred pieces. Humour is a strong feature in much of his work. Decoration is drawn onto the pots using a scalpel, and coloured using slips and metallic oxides.
