John Walker was born in Dorchester in the house of his grandmother. His early love was for pottery, fired by the influence of Bernard Leach whom he met. After gaining a degree in Art History he made stoneware in Dorchester but then drifted towards art. Since 1975 painting has been his main work, though every summer some raku is made in his garden kiln. His love of Wessex and an interest in archaeology infuse his work. His paintings are in private collections in Britain, Scandinavia, Ireland and the USA. His linocuts are bold, vivid and alive with the spirit of indigenous flora and fauna, and a strong connection to the ancient treasures of the British landscape. His paintings are bold while retaining delicate details, full of mood and atmosphere.
